23 and Me
November 2017 -- Raleigh, NC. My heritage was discussed openly and often my entire life. "We are nearly all Irish with some English (which was probably an Irishman who identified him/herself as English to avoid prejudice and ethnic intolerance) and a great-great-grandmother who was Cherokee and married a white man (to avoid persecution and what was later called the Trail of Tears)."
Those family stories are true, but we are so much more. While I will likely never know the stories of all the people who led to the creation of me, knowing that they existed at some point in time has helped me relate to the world in a way I had not anticipated.
